United Way Success by 6

United Way Success By 6 is an initiative that brings together a collaboration of people from business, education, government and child development organizations to help ensure that all children in our service area have the opportunity to enter school healthy, well adjusted and ready to learn.

Community Standards
To create and ensure quality early childhood programs, proper standards must be adopted by the community. The following are some United Way Success By 6 supported community standards:

  • Certification. Every person who provides child care must have a high school diploma or GED and be First Aid/CPR certified. Continuing education is also a must.
  • Caregiver background check. A federal and state screening for previous criminal charges, including child abuse and neglect, are required of all caregivers.
  • Child friendly environment. A place where children and their family's needs are respected.
  • Clean, safe and consistent environment.
  • Child : Adult ratio. Adherence to applicable child : adult ratio guarantees children are given individual attention and interaction.
  • Curriculum. The childcare center maintains a daily schedule of planned activities and minimal TV. Books are always available.
