There are always challenges as we embark on a new campaign year, and this year  we feel a new strength having joined together as the Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas United Way.  We have felt the pain for Joplin and all they have endured over the last few months and will continue to do in the future.  It is also important to remember the United Way supports those in need all through the year providing assistance to such a vast number of people, and we must continue to be there for them.  Yes, all of the local agencies the United Way provides funding for will depend on us to be there for the people they serve.

We expected 2011 to be a year of great change and excitement for our local United Way since we were merging the Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas organizations this year.  The change we experienced was beyond the scope of anyone’s imagination.  And although we have witnessed an unprecedented outpouring of support from all over the world to support the Tornado relief efforts, the annual United Way campaign is dedicated to helping support those families that need the day-to-day services provided by our local United Way agenciesThe need for these services is now greater than ever.  I know that our friends and neighbors will rise to the occasion as we have shown ourselves capable over the last few months to provide support that is truly needed.
